Small Business Spotlight: Why We Love Our Small Businesses

Almost every month for the last decade, VCNB has written a blog spotlight on a small business or organization in one of the communities we call home. From Broadway Fireplace in Grove City to Le Petit Chevalier Vineyards and Farm Winery in Vinton County to the Willis-James Bed and Breakfast in Chillicothe, we have tried to give a helping hand to the people and businesses that make up the fabric of our communities.

In this constantly shrinking world where it’s possible to have nearly anything delivered straight to our front door, we think it’s still important to walk down the streets of our towns. In this world where huge corporations direct what we buy, what we eat, how we communicate and how we spend our spare time, we think it’s important to still talk to our neighbors in person. It’s valuable to find out what’s important to them and to support the businesses that are keeping our main streets and small towns alive.

In supporting a small business, you’re telling a neighbor that you support their dreams and their ability to make a living doing what they love. You’re saying it’s important for your community to be vibrant with goods and services that make it an attractive place to live and visit. You’re saying that it’s important to keep your tax money local which in turn supports things like road repairs, fire protection and law enforcement services. Not to mention, small businesses tend to support local nonprofit fundraising and school activities more than out-of-town corporations.

Is it possible to only shop locally? Maybe not but those business owners will do a happy dance when you can. That’s why we spotlight them and why we hope you will buy locally when possible.

Trust us. They will thank you for it.
